Too Young for Victoria's Secret
I was reading an article on ABC news today about a 9 y/o girl whose mother not only allows, but fully supports her shopping at Victoria's Secret. There is justsomething about this that sexy plus size lingerie irritates me, especially when I see the 9 y/o clearly explaining in a very "grownup" way that she is ready to move "a bit away from Gymboree and on to the next level". So, what say you? Too much? No problem? Why? Why not?
I guess the difference for me lies in the fact that the mom is specifically taking her kid to VS to buy her underwear from there. I don't take issue with my kids seeing certain things Sexy Lingerie at the store, but I'm also not stopping and saying "Hey, let's look at these!" Also, WM Target don't have lots of full size pictures of models plastered all over the store.
For me, there is plenty of "cute" underwear out there for 9 year olds without going to VS. To be honest, I hate walking by VS with my kids. Why should they be looking at fullsize photos of scantily clad women? Why is that normalized? I get that it's okay to be sexual, but don't blast it all over the mall where there are children. So, we pretty much avoid the mall as much as possible. DH likes to go to the apple store, though and it's right next to VS. And that dumb dog! I have on child who LOVES dogs and she always gravitates toward it.
Their business model is disgusting. If you have any concerns about your own health or the health of your child, you should always consult with a physician or other healthcare professional.
